Ghost Of Tsushima: 10 Samurai Films You MUST Watch After Finishing The Story
6. Yojimbo (1961)
A classic from Akira Kurosawa which showcases his directorial style at its best.
Much like other works of Kurosawa, Yojimbo inspired several western adaptations such as A Fistful of Dollars, with Clint Eastwood's onscreen Man With No Name deriving much from Toshiro Mifune's turn as Sanjuro. There was also a pretty bad remake with Bruce Willis called Last Man Standing, and in keeping with the original genre, Samurai Jack has also paid homage.
The film follows Sanjuro in the closing years of the Edo period as he attempts to navigate a town that has been divided by a gang war. While the plot may sound familiar, Kurosawa uses a number of elements from different genres in this title such as comedy, action, and even folk tales. The result is a Kurosawa classic.
This film focuses on a lone samurai and with that in mind, fans of Ghost of Tsushima will likely find similarities here. On top of that, it is a fantastic and influential film.
