3. GTA III
While this one undoubtedly has the weakest story of the mainline 3D games, its also where the franchise spiritually began and clicked with gamers around the world. At the time, there was nothing like GTA on the market; it was something we salivated over but didnt even know we wanted beforehand. Theres a strong chance that your most vivid memories of the franchise come from here, whether its the first time you raked in a prostitute only to kill her after serving you, or messing around with tanks. You also cant forget the musical selection which, while relatively small now, was huge back then. The mission design remains unforgettable today also, with multiple challenging objectives like frantically driving around the city to smash nine drug stalls masquerading as coffee shops, or laying down sniper fire for a complete idiot. Not only is GTA III a fantastic game, but it was the beginning of seemingly endless success.
