As well as performing the heists, there are a number of story-style missions that the player will be invited to complete by some of the game's many colourful cast of characters. They unlock themselves as you rise up the ranks, and are usually introduced with a phone call that invites you to undertake them. A number of the game's offline story mode characters reappear for cameos here, and there's a welcome return for the deranged Trevor who's infuriated you've been roaming around messing up his plans. There's no chronological narrative to these missions and you're free to play through them all in whatever order once they're unlocked, but as with the heists you can still join in with any active mission provided you're invited by someone. The payouts for these missions aren't huge, but they offer enough Reputation Points to still be worth both your time and your ammunition. Primarily though, they're going to introduce you to other players who you can buddy up with and come back to when you're in need of reliable cohorts to conclude your heists with.
