3. Races
Another competitive aspect of GTA outside of gunplay and car chases (at least in the illegal sense) is the ability to race with your friends online. GTA V doesn't just limit you to cars, though; you can also hop into a plane and fly through check-points, or jump onto a jet-ski and take over water. If there are the same stat-based advantages to these sports that exist in the single-player game - such as improving your driving and so on - then this will be heavily incentivised, all the more so if you can also earn money for racing. Imagine setting up a Fast and the Furious-type racing competition, where the stakes are high and, if you so wish, you can even race for pink slips, and risk losing your $500,000 beast of a custom motor. Hopefully Rockstar are thinking along the same lines...
