GTA V: 10 Reasons Why We Need a New Hero

2. Unresolved Issues

Each time we meet a new GTA protagonist, they harbour an unresolved issue, the pursuit of which sets in motion a chain of events that sees said protagonist rise to power. For Niko Bellic, the issue was figuring out who had betrayed him during his Eastern European military history and killing him; each new contact brought us more money, more power and ultimately one step closer to Niko€™s final showdown. Each GTA protagonist to date has had this €˜unresolved issue€™ going into the game; throughout, step-by-step, our task was to resolve it. But it€™s deeper than just €œhere€™s your ultimate goal, get to it€; it was almost as though this one piece of unfinished business was what fuelled each protagonist, what drove them, as though if they could just get it done then their lives would finally be complete. If an old protagonist were to return to begin this whole process again€ well, to quote John McClane, €œhow can the same s**t happen to the same guy twice€?
