Kingdom Hearts 3: 10 Final Fantasy Characters Who Should Be Included

Move over, Cloud.

Square Enix

Back in 2002, the arrival of the original Kingdom Hearts drew in many players with its alluring opportunity to see iconic Disney characters in the same game as Final Fantasy characters. Though that initial Final Fantasy influence has appeared to wane in recent games, it's hard not to hold out hope that Kingdom Hearts III - the big one every fan has been waiting for - will bring in more than a few new characters from the franchise to mix it up with those whose returns are inevitable.

Up until now, the Final Fantasy games that have been represented the most in the world of Kingdom Hearts have been VII and X, though players have encountered a handful of characters from VI, VIII and IX. However, with so many other main titles, sequels, prequels and spin-offs lining the franchise's history, countless others are yet to make the jump.

The following list will not focus on any one single game for more than an entry in an attempt to capture the scope of the franchise and the diversity of its characters as best as possible, excluding those from games yet to be fully released, like XV.

With that out of the way, let's take a look at 10 characters - along with offering some well-deserved alternatives - who should join in the fun of the big sequel...

10. Chocobos

Square

First Appeared In: Final Fantasy II

Like Moogles, Chocobos are one of the franchise's long-running staples. Players have been able to breed them, race them, summon them, fight them and more across the series, and their status as a universal symbol for Final Fantasy makes it all the more surprising that they haven't shown up in Kingdom Hearts yet. After all these years, it's time they - or even just Bartz's Chocobo Boko, for instance - make an appearance.

Alternatives: Recurring series summons like Ifrit, Shiva or Bahamut, either as summons for Sora, as secret boss fights or as battles in the Coliseum.
