It's hard to believe that over a decade has now passed since the release of Kingdom Hearts II, yet here we are. In the years that have passed by, the series hasn't taken a break, with the story continuing to expand through games like Birth By Sleep and Dream Drop Distance, but the big sequel fans have been waiting for for all these years still remains somewhere on the horizon, close yet elusive, subject to ever-increasing anticipation and boatloads of speculation.

With Disney having acquired everything from Star Wars to Indiana Jones to Marvel and more over the years, one question that continues to sit on the forefront of many fans' minds is whether or not such characters could actually pop up in Kingdom Hearts III or beyond. In particular, Pixar's films and characters have repeatedly been part of that conversation, which comes as no surprise considering how influential the company has been and how iconic many of their characters have gone on to become.

Though Kingdom Hearts III remains shrouded in secrecy, the idea that Pixar films could be represented in it in various forms is exciting, with so much potential to see their characters show up for cameos or as part of worlds all of their own there for the taking if Square and Disney wanted to make it happen. While the game's release date remains a mystery, let's look ahead to it anyway to sort out a number of ways Pixar's films could be included...

How: A world and/or summon.

Were they to visit a world themed around Paradise Falls, Sora, Donald, and Goofy could come across Carl and Russell at the start of their own adventure. From earning Dug as a party member to battling Muntz - who could be utilizing Heartless in his drive to capture Kevin - Alpha, and the rest of the dog pack, the film's events could play out in a streamlined fashion befitting Kingdom Hearts' typical Disney-related storytelling.

Considering that Carl's past with Ellie forms the huge emotional (and crucial) core of the film - something the game would likely be unable to really explore - it would be understandable if a world based on the film wasn't included simply to retain its integrity. However, giving players the ability to summon a character like Dug or Kevin into combat would be a great fun, and an easy way to honor the movie.
