Final Fantasy XV's highly-anticipated animated spin-off movie, Kingsglaive, is available now on VOD platforms, and it's fair to say that critics haven't taken too kindly to it so far.

It is, of course, worth bearing in mind that the critical panning in part comes from film critics who won't be playing the video game equivalent when it arrives on November 29, so may be less-tolerant of the film's various indulgences.

That said, the consensus doesn't lie: it's hard to call Kingsglaive an outright good film, and much like prior FF movies The Spirits Within and Advent Children, is laudable more for its presentation than its approach to characters and plot.

Fans will lap it up regardless, though they're best-advised to keep their expectations in check with what is nothing if not an extremely middling animated adventure.
