Marvel's Avengers: 10 Iconic Iron Man Armours That NEED To Be Included
6. Mark XXIX: Extremis
Fans of the MCU will already be well acquainted with the 2005 Extremis arc, as the story featured heavily in both Iron Man and Iron Man 3. It's easy to see why Kevin Feige would draw so much from the storyline, as it is a crucial part of Tony's history within the comics.
The biggest difference between the film and the source material is the power of Extremis itself. In Iron Man 3, it's closer to the super solider serum that it attempted to mirror, whereas in the comics, the virus was much more of a threat.
When Iron Man tracked down the terrorist's van and blew it in half, Mallen recovers instantly and launches an attack on ol' Shell Head. It becomes clear very quickly that Stark is unable to gain the upper hand as Mallen's abilities are far quicker and stronger than his current armour can handle.
The
hero heads back, battered and bruised with his armour beyond repair.
While treating his injuries, Stark decides he must inject himself with
the Extremis virus in order to match Mallen's abilities. He adapts the serum to include his own technologies, merging his armour and gadgets into the hollows of his bones.
