10. Commander Shepard's Male Default Face Is Based On A Real Person
Don't adjust your monitors; that's really a guy who exists in the real world. It's a
little-known fact that Bioware actually used Dutch model Mark Vanderloo's face as the basis for default male Commander Shepard. It's a face that'll be familiar to most gamers, particularly as creating your own ultimately ends up with your character looking like something that is usually seen emerging from swamps on foggy, eerie evenings. Understanding why this was the case is pretty simple; it's more than likely that Bioware wanted a realistic face for their brand new, super shiny game and decided therefore to work with a real face and render it as closely as they could. The results, particularly in ME2 and 3, are startling. So if you're ever walking down the street and somehow think you're going crazy because you've just seen Commander Shepard from Mass Effect, chances are it's just Mark Vanderloo.
