Mass Effect: 15 Easter Eggs, Secrets & References You Totally Missed
9. The Hidden Rachni Songs
Everyone remembers the Rachni Queen. You either decided to spare her life or promptly ended it in one of the more memorable decision-making sections of the first game. But what you probably won't remember, or indeed even noticed, is that Bioware has actually hid a selection of areas within Mass Effect where you can hear what has now become known as the Songs of the Rachni. These eerie sounds drift out across the landscape, seemingly from nowhere but extremely loud. They don't lead to anything whatsoever, but it's impressive that Bioware went to this level of detail and threw these sections in purely as a bizarre easter egg. There is some speculation that these songs may not to be to do with the Rachni, but in ME's lore the creatures use long-distance songs to call out to one another across the stars. Given that the species are meant to all be extinct, this could be the cry of a lonely insectoid simply looking for his friends. Or, alternatively, it's just a weird planetary sound effect that appears in random locations around Mass Effect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOKVMu91P-U&feature=youtu.be
