Mass Effect 5 Wishlist: 10 Major Risks Bioware MUST Take

2. Develop Old Races

Bioware

While there definitely needs to be some fresh faces, BioWare also needs to risk turning their backs on old favourites to give some lesser known species a run out. Mass Effect has room to explore more on the Quarians, Asari, Turians and even the Geth, but they really need to look elsewhere for a truly original take on the series.

Throughout the four games so far, we’ve met three Drell; Thane and his son, plus Liara's assistant in Lair Of The Shadow Broker. That's one squadmate, his relative who's in at most three scenes, and a minor character in one scene of a DLC. By some species' standards though, having a squadmate makes the Drell the stars of the show.

As another example, can you name a Hanar who isn't Blasto?

There are a few of them scattered around, but they're mainly used for jokes. Ditto the Elcor and Volus. That was fine in the early games, when everyone was still being established. The little moments of humour were and under appreciated part of what made Mass Effect great.

Now though, the joke's over. Those species, plus the likes of the Vorcha, the Batarians and even the Yahg need some spotlight.
