Mass Effect Trilogy: 9 Crazy Facts You Never Knew
1. Fan Response Led To Garrus Being Romance-Able
Reaction to the above picture will likely be split
into two camps. Those who haven't played Mass Effect will be thinking
"What the hell is that thing!?". Those who have played Mass
Effect will be thinking "I want this thing to make sweet, sweet
love to me".
The above "thing" is Garrus, a member of Mass Effect's exo-skeleton covered Turian race and arguably the best companion of the entire series. A cross between Jack Bauer, Han Solo and the Predator, Garrus became hugely popular with the Mass Effect fandom thanks to Bioware's stellar writing and VA Brandon Keener's excellent delivery.
However, he was never meant to be romanceable. In an interview with The Gamer website, Mass Effect 2 and 3 development director Dorian Kieken admitted Bioware were bowled over by fan interest in Garrus, to the point they felt compelled to make him a potential love interest in the sequels after leaving him out in the cold in the first game.
In an era where gamers send death threats over delays, it's nice to hear about fans positively impacting their favourite games.
