Metal Gear Solid V: 10 Plot Points It Needs To Tie Up

6. Psycho Mantis' Origins

Psycho Mantis Phantom Pain If you know your MGS, you'll probably already know how Psycho Mantis came to be. As a child he suffered greatly, until eventually one day his psychic powers suddenly exploded, killing many and burning down the village where he lived. The child who would then go on to become Mantis was horribly burned by the experience, and was forced to wear a gas mask to hide his face. Intriguingly, at the start of the Phantom Pain where Big Boss awakens, we see a child in a mask... who then starts to levitate. It seems that this is without a doubt Psycho Mantis still as a child, and it could possibly be that at the exact moment Big Boss escapes the facility where he was in a coma that the young Mantis breaks free of his confines as well and begins his own journey. The potential to explore the origins of one of the series' most popular characters is certainly there. Let's hope they capitalise on it.
