Mortal Kombat 11: 10 Characters We DON'T Want To See
1. Johnny Cage
Mortal Kombat is a franchise where the base roster includes a pair of fire and ice-bending ninjas, an all-powerful God of thunder, a cyborg mercenary with a laser-blasting eye and a military general with near-limitless resources. So why does a normal guy in shades whose signature move is a punch to the crotch eat up a roster slot in almost every single mainline entry?
Johnny Cage is emblematic of Mortal Kombat's tendency to favour history over an interesting roster. For better or worse, Cage is a character who feels like a relic of the 1990s. Not quite charming enough to be a nostalgic throwback, nor comical enough to feel like a sharply-written spoof, Cage is a character out of time, and Netherrealm's insistence on carting him out for every game is starting to wear thin.
A beloved character who helped shape the identity of Mortal Kombat, it's high time that this quipping movie star took an acting break, and maybe sits out MK 11 to let other fan favourites have their moment in the sun.
