Seems a no brainer, really. Warner Brothers own both franchises and this is a match made in heaven. Or hell, really.
While Tim Curry’s Pennywise in the TV adaptation has a cult like legacy, the show itself was average and went downhill sharply after that storm drain scene. When a movie version of King’s doorstop thick novel was announced, many people expected another standard horror movie; a few scares, a bit of profit, and off it goes to the land of Halloween reruns. But it was not to be.
Instead, with Bill Skarsgaard as the killer clown, It became one of the most popular movies of all time. The bone rattling fear combined with nostalgia instigated by Stranger Things proved to be a winning combination. With a sequel in the works, Pennywise is almost a cert for Mortal Kombat 11.
Pennywise’s clown costume seems perfect for Netherrealm’s design style, and the shape shifting abilities could be truly terrifying. Long venomous fangs? Soulless black eyes? Extra spider limbs? All these and more offer some amazing options for special attack animations and fatalities. Any new jump scares from the sequel could be included to make Pennywise feel extra fresh too.
