1. Toasty!
Okay, a Mortal Kombat fact list cannot be complete without mentioning Dan "Toasty" Forden. Forden was in charge of composing and sound designing for the original game. When he played video games, Forden had a habit of shouting "I predict toasty!" which was his way of saying his opponent "was toast". He performed this battle cry so often, Forden received the moniker, Toasty.
While the developers were programming Mortal Kombat, they thought it would be funny if Scorpion's Fatality was called Toasty. Since Scorpion incinerates his opponent, the name seemed fitting.
For the sequel, Forden became known worldwide as the "The Toasty Guy" when players noticed he popped out of the bottom right crying, "Toasty!" if a character performed a vicious uppercut.
Over the years, there have been variances of this in-joke. In MK3, Forden will shout "Frosty!" if Sub-Zero freezes an opponent while they were in danger mode. When Scorpion performs his Fatality in MK4, Forden shouts, "Toast! 3D!" In Ultimate MK3, Forden will say "Crispy!" under certain conditions.
When Forden exclaims "Toasty!" in the 2011 version of Mortal Kombat, he is seen wearing a shirt with buttered toast on it.
