If you've any experience of Mortal Kombat, then chances are you know those three words. Scorpion's cry as he hurls a harpoon across the screen, impaling his opponents then dragging them towards him while they're still stunned from the impact is iconic.

Born Hanzo Hasashi, he was once one of the greatest warriors of the Shirai Ryu ninja clan until he died at the hands of rival clan the Lin Kuei. Finding out that his entire clan had been decimated and his wife and child put to death, Hanzo made a deal with a sorcerer in the Netherrealm that he could return as a powerful revenant to take his revenge.

Looking to all the world like his original self, the illusion only drops when Scorpion removes his mask to reveal a flaming skull beneath, moments before roasting his opponents alive with fiery breath. Facing Sub Zero, the leader of the Lin Kuei, in Mortal Kombat, Scorpion was eventually forced to team up with him and Raiden to hold off Shang Tsung's forces in the chaos that followed Liu Kang's victory over Goro.

Scorpion has been confirmed to be played by the wonderful Hiroyuki Sanada, an actor who has a habit of shining in awful productions.
