Among the multitude of games shown off in Nintendo's fantastic (albeit brief) announcement video for the Switch, Splatoon continues to surprise with a release for the console next year.
The premise of humanoid squids lashing each other with ink to reach victory has definitely proven to be a popular one, having sold hundreds of thousands of copies in the days and weeks following its initial release.
Whether that popular streak continues with Switch remains to be seen, but given Splatoon's loyal following I wouldn't be at all surprised to see it top sales charts once again.

In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir.
