Nintendo Switch Online: 10 More SNES Games It Desperately Needs

8. NBA Jam Tournament Edition

Those of us who grew up in the U.K. had less affinity for Basketball and the stars of the NBA than US gamers.

What we could get on board with though, was fast, action packed gameplay and the chance to score endless bragging rights over your mates. Midway’s NBA Jam: Tournament Edition gave us both, along with some pretty iconic commentary. Besides, the appeal of dunking a flaming basketball crosses all cultural boundaries.

The game also included a slew of unlockable characters to shoot some hoops with. They might not have forked out for the rights to include Michael Jordan but they did give us The Beastie Boys, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Prince Charles and the Clintons, as well as others who might baffle younger players today.

Tournament Edition offered more power ups than the original NBA Jam. However, if you wanted to take your basketball a bit more seriously, Tournament mode would switch off power ups entirely. It’s akin to switching off items in Mariokart. That is to say, we don’t see the appeal but apparently some people like it.

NBA Jam would be a more than welcome edition to Switch Online’s sport options, Super Soccer and Super Tennis.
