Overwatch: Ranking Every Cinematic Short (So Far)

1. Dragons

Truthfully, the top 3 entries on this list could all vie for first place for the sheer quality of storytelling, but the cinematic Dragons scrapes by just by a hair, for mixing two equally gorgeous mediums together to tell two fantastic stories, the majesty and tragedy of the old children's story mirroring that of the main plot.

This particular story encapsulates everything that makes Overwatch so enthralling. The old, epic tales mixed with a dazzling futuristic setting, with interesting and nuanced characters with complex relationships and backstories. The fights are exciting, the emotions are high, and there's something almost Shakespearean about the whole affair.

This isn't even mentioning the breathtaking animation and grandiose score, Genji's reveal delivering one of the greatest climactic highs to any unsuspecting viewer.

Like Recall, Dragons has its characters looking to the future of the world with hope and uncertainty. Unlike Recall, saving the world isn't a foregone conclusion, and Hanzo, who was the focal point of this short, still has a choice he needs to make.

This short is the reason multitudes of people bought the game, and holds up as one of the greatest, if not THE greatest, of Overwatch's truly stunning filmography.
