4. Stat-Specific Items
In the standard video games, there were items that specifically targeted individual statistics of your Pokemon.
Some increased total Hit Points (HP), others their attack strength or defence. In any case, you could target specific attributes of your Pokémon and make them stronger by using different items.
In Pokémon GO, the only two items that affect your Pokemon are Stardust (used to make them stronger) and Candy (used for evolutions). Stardust, when combined with Candy, changes the overall CP, or "Combat Power," of your Pokemon. The only basic statistic this increases in your Pokemon is HP.
If Pokémon GO were able to introduce a type of item that would specifically target attack strength, that would allow for Pokemon to actually become stronger and more formidable in gym battles.
