Pokémon Sword & Shield: 5 Confirmed Details (And 5 Predictions)
1. Prediction: We’ll Get A Dark Gym
Dark type was added in Gen II and is one of the most popular types in the game. It has an easily identifiable look, it’s Pokémon have a wide yet connected aesthetic and it’s well balanced. However, despite this, it’s yet to have a gym in the games.
The main theory as to why this is is because the evil teams (Rocket, Skull etc) have always favoured Dark types with the likes of Houndoom, Mightyena and Honchcrow. However, the typically weak grunts are no match for a real gym, and it means the best Dark types are often overlooked for weaker fodder.
Absol, Shiftry, Tyranitar, Greninja and Zoroark would make for a hugely impressive team, with the likes of Weavil, Umbreon, Krookodile and of course any new Dark ‘mons Sword & Shield brings us making for great extras sprinkled throughout the lesser trainers. Sableye, being only weak to Fairy type, could be an interesting inclusion too.
Finally, the aesthetics of a Dark gym have the potential to be unrivalled, especially with the Switch bringing a level of never before seen graphics to the franchise. After all this time, it would certainly be a welcome addition.
