Pokémon Sword & Shield - 10 Best New Pokémon
8. Morgrem
Morgrem is a little bit of a strange one. Impidimp had a half reveal in a playable convention demo, only for its official reveal to be overshadowed by Galarian Ponyta a couple of months later.
As a Dark Fairy typing, there was obvious fascination with Impidimp. The typing had been requested since Fairy made its debut, and it felt like it had a lot of gothic fairytale potential. Of the three in the Impidimp line, Morgrem is easily the one who fills that potential the most.
Impidimp is just a little too cute and goofy to really fulfil that role. It does its job as a first stage brilliantly, but that includes laying the table for what comes next.
Conversely, Grimmsnarl, the final stage, is an evil, nightmarish, steroid infused goblin. It’s not so much that it’s overdesigned - although it definitely is - it’s that the whole concept is deeply flawed.
Morgrem though, part troll and part emo, feels like the perfect blend. It’s more human than some fans would like, but that’s a bit of a habit of some more modern ‘mons, and dates back to Jynx and Mr Mime anyway.
Morgrem is one of the best ever in that category, and a solid Galar ‘mon.
