Battle competitions that act as the series' endgame activities have been a standard inclusion since the third generation, and Game Freak have tried to keep these interesting ever since. Various iterations have filled the gap over the years, with the likes of Battle Frontier and Battle Tower appearing so far.

Battle Competitions are set to be the seventh generation's answer to this feature, with Friendly Competitions giving players the chance to create contest rules for their friends to participate in. Players can name their competition, choose the Pokédex and rulesets before imposing restrictions and adding timers or challenges to complete them.

These competitions will then be given unique QR codes, which can in turn be given out to interested participants. Given the success of a game like Mario Maker, it's hardly surprising that another big Nintendo franchise would take up the mantle of player creation to add to Pokémon's already burgeoning community.
