Popcap Games Bought by EA

Social gaming company famous for creating the Peggle and Plants vs. Zombies, has been purchased by Electronic Arts for the sum of $750 million.

Electronic Arts for the sum of $750 million, netting EA a big time social gaming company.

"We picked EA because they have recast their culture around making great digital games," said David Roberts, CEO of PopCap. "By working with EA, we'll scale our games and services to deliver more social, mobile, casual fun to an even bigger, global audience."
This is a good business deal for EA because most social network games are cheap to produce and some end up having very high returns, meaning there is very little risk involved in producing one of these games. I believe more gaming companies should have a smaller group within the company producing social network and mobile games to help offset the cost of producing tripe-A video games.
