PS4 Reveal: 3 Guidelines Sony Must Follow To Avoid A Catastrophe

3. Reasonable MSRP, Please

The picture above is of a PlayStation, the price of which has dropped more than 50% since the launch. Neat, huh?

The PS3 launched in two fomats: one with a 60 GB hard drive, and one with a 20 GB hard drive - and if you own a console now, you are fully aware that 20 GB isn't sh*t - what a way we've come since then, huh? However, the price of each system was absolutely absurd; the 60 GB was a whopping $599, and the 20 GB was, for the tiny amount of HD space, an equally mind-boggling $499.

Now, several media outlets have interviewed Sony regarding the pricing fiasco, and it has been commonly accepted that the logic behind the price was meant to offset the cost of the internal hardware that went with each unit. As technology has expanded and improved phenomenally since, it's unlikely that Sony will need to toss out such a ridiculous pricing point, however one can only hope that Sony has genuinely learned its lesson about sky-high prices - I myself spent over $700 the day I bought one, as Madden 2007 and Resistance: Fall of man set me back an additional $120. Please remember Sony, the recession is global and not all gamers can afford to empty their bank accounts over a new kick-ass gaming system - we still need to pay rent and buy food too.
