Ranking Every Final Fantasy Composer
7. Mitsuto Suzuki
Works: VII Remake, XII-2. Lightning Returns: XII, Mobius
VII Remake was the first game not to have a definitive lead composer, as no individual bar Nobuo Uematsu (whose original creations for VII were reworked to make up almost half of the whopping 180 pieces) was responsible for more than 20% of the overall soundtrack. Mitsuto Suzuki contributed 23 tracks in total, making him one of the most prolific contributors to the project and rounding off an excellent decade that saw him rise through the ranks of Square Enix composers.
Having begun as an arranger on XIII, he stepped up to support XIII-2 and Lightning Returns, contributing 19 tracks to the former and 25 to the latter, including the likes of ‘Limit Break’ and ‘Death Game’.
Sector 6 and Wall Market were seemingly his domains on VII Remake given that he put together catchy creations like ‘Colosseum Death Match’ and ‘Collapsed Expressway’ interspersed with the tranquil ‘Midnight Rendezvous’ and the pieces that score Cloud and Andrea’s dance sequences.
His only solo work
for the company has been for the mobile title Mobius, which ended service at
the end of June. With three different volumes under his belt for this, he is
more than ready to graduate onto something bigger.
