Ranking Every Game Of The Year Winner Since 2010

8. Overwatch (2016)

God Of War
Blizzard

Overwatch is still going strong over two years after its original release, so it might seem a little harsh to have it so low on this list. However, when you consider all of the factors, it comes up pretty short stacked next to its competitors.

So many games here are immersive experiences with deep, compelling narratives that excite us, shock us and break our hearts across their hours long gameplay. Overwatch... lets us shoot things.

As online shooters go, it’s a contender for the best ever. Packed with personality, well balanced, given regular updates and with a roster that’s overflowing with wonderful characters. But there is zero story.

That’s not necessarily saying the game would be improved by a tacked on story mode. Though it would be fun to run and gun through corridors as Mei or Tracer, it wouldn’t be Overwatch. Mowing down much weaker enemies rather than leaping around trying to take out your peers holds some appeal, but that’s not what the game was built for.

In truth, Overwatch may be as close to perfect as it can be. But the perfect online shooter is a little one note compared the open world games of the decade.
