2. Ori & The Blind Forest

In a mechanical sense, Ori & The Blind Forest does little that hasn't been seen before in hundreds of other 'Metroidvania' style games: what makes Moon Studios' own entry in the genre a perfect specimen is the components wholly attributable to its talented team of artists, writers and composers.

Gameplay does have its own little unique nuances, of course, in the form of the simple yet brilliant 'Soul Links' checkpoint system, but it's Ori's orchestral score, impossibly beautiful environments and coming-of-age story that leave the strongest lasting impressions.

If not already, Xbox owners new and old owe it to themselves to experience Moon Studio's labour of love. Especially so, now that a sequel is on course to land in 2019.
