Ranking Summer 2017's Video Games From Worst To Best
6. Destiny 2
Destiny is hands-down one of the weirdest games I've played and reviewed. As such, I'll give you two takes:
Subjectively: Right off the bat Destiny 2 just feels fun. Its immediately playable and rewarding loot-shooter nature means you'll be popping headshots and hoovering up new weapons and gear within seconds, the story supplanting this optional grind with a main villain to hunt, side-missions to indulge in and lore to read up on.
It's a far more healthy package in every respect, and rights every last wrong of the original, damn-near erasing it from existence in the process.
Objectively: What it has in shooting prowess - comprised of quality-tested gunplay Bungie have mastered over the years - it lacks in any real meaningful pull. Yes, you can pull the arcade machine lever and watch the numbers fly around, getting a quick 'fix' and a rush from seeing the bright colours pop off as the rewards come thick and fast, but is there actually anything here of real, true, lasting substance?
Hell no.
Destiny 2 is blowing half a grand down the casino. You'll probably have a whale of a time, but don't you dare actually analyse the machinations of just how much time and money you're wasting.
