Resident Evil: Ranking Every Major Protagonist Worst To Best

6. Rebecca Chambers

Eliminators Resident Evil 0
Capcom

Appearing in the very first Resident Evil title, Rebecca Chambers was actually canonically one of the first Resi heroes to actually encounter zombies and stumble onto Umbrella's virus project. She was a side character in that initial title, but was promoted in her playable debut, Resident Evil 0, which shed some light on these preliminary, haunting events.

As mentioned previously, her relatively meek characterisation bounced well off criminal Billy Coen, but she was still a captivating hero in her own right. Her unassured disposition fit the situation perfectly; this was the first time anybody had dealt with the undead, and the character's own palpable fear ensured every bit of tension and horror was wrung out of the premise.

Series creator Shinji Mikami has reflected on the character's portrayal (despite her popularity) in interviews before, lamenting the star's lack of real agency and autonomy. However, it's Rebecca's naivety that made her so endearing to fans, and gives her so much room to grow should she reappear in this franchise.
