Although fans had speculated that WB Games Montreal's follow up to Batman: Arkham Origins would revolve around the Suicide Squad, as was teased in the game's final cutscene, it looks as though that project is now dead in the water.

According to Kotaku, development on Suicide Squad - which was said to feature Deathstroke in the lead - ended December 2016. Development then resumed on two other Batman titles, each sporting markedly different takes on the Caped Crusader, while Rocksteady pressed ahead with their closely guarded superhero project.

What this bodes for a potential Origins sequel is anyone's guess, but it does mean that the Suicide Squad threads established in both Origins and its portable spin-off Blackgate are set to be cut loose.
