Silent Hill PS5 Reboot BACK ON At Sony

Has Sony just nabbed the PS5's first killer app?

After months of conflicting reports, it seems as though the Silent Hill reboot project is back on at Sony. Initially reported in March, rumours suggested that Sony had purchased the rights to make games in the horror series from Konami, and had TWO games in development: a reboot headed up by the franchise's original creators, and a Silent Hills revival at Kojima productions.

Konami clarified that they had nothing to share and nothing in the works relating to Silent Hill, but since then more rumours have surfaced suggesting that's not the case. On the Resetera forums, a poster clarified the confusing reports, saying:

“The only thing I can 100% confirm is the SH reboot with Toyama, Ito and Yamaoka. It'll be announced in the next few months."

It should be noted that Resetera is known for reliable insider information, with it being used by people in the industry such as developers and journalists. Likewise, this user's information was verified by the staff of the website, strengthening its legitimacy.

While no word on Silent Hills may hurt for some, this is still exciting news. The names mentioned in the post refer to Keiichiro Toyama, Masahiro Ito and Akira Yamaoka, the creator of the series (who left after the first game), lead artist and lead composer respectively.

There are no words on plot or story focus yet - or whether it's going to be a full reboot or remake of the original game - but it seems pretty certain that something Silent Hill related is incoming.
