Silent Hills: 10 Reasons To Be Incredibly Excited
With film mastermind Guillermo Del Toro and Metal Gear Solid's Hideo Kojima teaming up, what can they both bring to the table?
If you happened to be within a five mile radius of any gamer these past few days chances are you'll have heard that an event called Gamescom was taking place in Cologne, Germany. It's one of a handful of major press events for the industry where heavyweights like Sony and Microsoft turn up to tantalise everyone with upcoming releases and news about what to expect from them in the future. As an excuse to get one up on the competition it's always interesting to tune in and watch everything unfold live, however what everyone's talking about is something that trolled us all midway through the Sony presentation. Time for some scene-setting: Following a fantastically ludicrous Metal Gear Solid demo where we saw series-creator Hideo Kojima (a lot more on him later) demonstrate the intricacies of how to hide in a cardboard box, a very ominous, dimly-lit trailer for a horror game flooded the auditorium. With the lights off and various open-ended statements such as "The only me is me/ Are you sure the only you is you?" appearing on screen, we saw some reaction shots of people being scared to death at whatever they were looking at. With a title of just 'P.T.' we were then encouraged to go to the Playstation Store to download an 'interactive teaser' - a mini one-area demo - which upon completion finally showed longer trailer. Within this was the reveal that both Kojima and Pan's Labyrinth/Pacific Rim-director Guillermo Del Toro were to be teaming up with The Walking Dead's Norman 'Daryl' Reedus, leading to the title of 'Silent Hills' at the end. Needless to say this is the biggest news coming out of the event, and with two of the most visionary directors in their respective fields joining forces for the first time, the amount of potential features and elements to be discussed numbers in the hundreds. We'd best get started then.
