Skyrim: Killing These NPCs Breaks EVERYTHING

Faendal

Players probably know Faendal as the first Wood Elf they officially meet in Skyrim, as well as being that snarky guy in the love triangle with Camilla Valerius and Sven in Riverwood.

However, the truth is that Faendal is one of the most handy characters to have around, and is actually decently layered for a character Bethesda have decided can be killed at any time.

First off, Faendal is probably the very first NPC players meet that can become available as a follower. Help him with his love endeavours and he will reward players with his services, access to his home and a discounted price for his adept-level Archery skills.

Faendal is the first NPC players can find where training levelling can be fully exploited, for those who take no issue with playing in such a way. Simply pay for lessons with Faendal to level up the Archery perk, then level up the Pickpocket perk by trying to steal it back from him, with the process being repeatable time and time again.

Once brought out as a follower, Faendal is also a great NPC to have around from a role-playing perspective. He comes with a steadfast lawful disposition, meaning he will refuse to loiter too long in an area a player isn't supposed to be, or attack innocent hold guards or other characters. He will, however, be available to join The Blades or be appointed as a steward at any one of the Dragonborn's houses.

What's more, Faendal also brings with him a plethora of unique interactions and events that really encapsulate the immersion of Skyrim as a game, all of which are impossible to find if this Bosmer ends up dying. For example, Faendal will occasionally visit Camilla Valerius wherever she is on the map, meaning that there will be times where players come home and find the Wood Elf hastily leaving.

There are also examples where - should she be married by the Dragonborn and subsequently kidnapped - players can find Faendal's corpse when they go to rescue Camilla, showcasing his depth as a character and providing a fun encounter that is lost should he bow out early.

For both game-breaking exploits to immersive role-playing, Faendal should be protected at all costs.
