Smash Bros Ultimate: 10 Characters Who Could Be The Final DLC
9. Minecraft Steve
Minecraft is one of the most iconic games of all time. Similar to Pokémon, which features heavily in Smash, the game is simple enough that it’s many players first ever game, but complex and deep enough that lots still play into adulthood.
It’s also gone full circle recently, after the initial popularity, many early adopters were outgrowing it. It was a ‘kid’s game’ again, too childish and basic. However, with Fortnite stepping into the fray, this has become the punching bag title, and a sense of nostalgia has settled on Minecraft again, restoring it to its former glory.
The time is right then to bring it to Smash.
The blocky, pixelated style might look a little jarring, but more so than the 2D Mr Game & Watch? Minecraft’s low res look is very much a part of its charm, and this contrasting aesthetic is part of the appeal of the game in the first place.
There’s games with a much richer Nintendo history than Smash, which only came to Wii U and then the Switch fairly recently. There’s not many with a bigger fanbase or more global recognition though.
