Sons of Anarchy Game: 10 More TV Series Games We Want To See

To celebrate the news that there's a Sons of Anarchy console game on the horizon, here are some other TV shows that deserve to be games.

Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter has confirmed that a console-based video game adaptation is in development, replacing the original browser format idea. Sutter took to Twitter to break the news: "SO A GAME UPDATE. had a great meeting with a big distributor yesterday. myself and everyone at FX and Fox is committed to making this happen... Yes, we definitely wanna do a REAL game. console based. not some slapcrap browser MP thing. it'll take awhile, but it's the right way to go." Bad boy biker FPS anyone? GTA style sandbox? Both intriguing ideas, and one thing is for certain, given Sutter's reaction to the "rushed" Walking Dead game, any Sons of Anarchy project is likely to be well-planned and executed. To celebrate the news, we've been thinking of ten other TV shows that we'd like to see given the video game treatment, so here goes nothing...

10. Supernatural

Taking on the best the devil can throw at you, alongside your brother in a Double Dragon sort of dynamic, only with way more angry demons. I'm thinking old-school side-scroller, regular huge bosses and plenty of good tunes to kick ass to.

9. Star Trek: The Next Generation

The gaming world is calling out for a sandbox style Star Trek game, including space battles, as well as on-planet away trips, with the Enterprise taking the place of a home hub, and the means to travel to different systems and planets as missions require. Small ship skirmishes would also be a nice addition, though full on

8. Buffy The Vampire Slayer

An MMO take on the supernatural teen series would allow legions of slayers take on the hordes of dead, undead and demonic spewing forth from an opened Hellmouth, levelling up, learning new skills and attacks and moving on to progressively more difficult challenges. You could also choose character class with Slayer, Watcher, Witch, Good Vampire, Helpful Demon and Dorky One-Eyed Sidekick all available.

7. Robin Hood

Based on the BBC adaptation of the men in tights legend, as opposed to any of the films or competing TV adaps (like Maid Marion and Her Merry Men) - and just a great opportunity to get a Robin Hood game made. FPS, with Co-op play available of course, with players taking control of bow wielding Robin in his battles against the Sheriff's men, and starting with an epic Crusades level as a prologue. Also, someone should make an Assassin's Creed style game focused on the Crusades to the Holy Land.

6. True Blood

The very adult vampire soap opera makes it a hat-trick of TV's finest supernatural titles, but this one would be best as a hyper-violent RPG: battle/seduce vampires to your heart's delight, while swearing prolifically and generally behaving very badly.

5. Torchwood

Shamelessly ripping off old-school Zelda games, and blending in the best elements of JRPG, a Torchwood game to go along with the upcoming Dr Who release would be a big plus for fans, and the slightly more adult themes and darker tone would definitely make for a more tonally rich game than family friendly Dr Who, in my humble opinion. Captain Jack also makes for a better RPG protagonist.

4. Firefly

Any excuse to extend the excellent Firefly's influence, and bring it to the attention of new potential fans has to be a good thing, and the intricately imagined universe of the TV show (and film, of course) would lend itself to a great sci-fi shooter in the vein of Mass Effect. Interestingly, there was once an MMORPG in development, but that unthinkably disappeared down the same improbable garbage shoot as the TV show did. No accounting for taste, but I do think a FPS would suit the Firefly world a lot better.

3. Battlestar Galactica

Another massive sci-fi series which would easily lend itself to any number of game types, but this one would work particularly well as an intergalactic RPG, marrying bias towards story with battle sequences, in the same manner that made the TV show so engaging.

2. Dexter

Flipping between Arkham Asylum's Detective Mode style investigative play for Dexter's day job, and psychopathic hunting of worthy prey, a Dexter game would be a great lark. Nothing would be quite like melding clinical procedural play with massively bloody stalk and kill sequences. Gimme.

1. Band of Brothers

The single best war TV show of all time deserves a prestigious FPS game, and it certainly has both the depth of storyline and a good group of potential protagonist characters to cater for an adaptation. The mini-series also had its fair share of set-piece battles and events across its ten episodes that would lend themselves to great game missions. This would be the perfect project to return historical war-based FPS gaming to its richest eras, just as long as it wasn't as passive and set-piece driven a gaming experience as Modern Warfare 3 anyway. What do you think? Have we missed any classic TV shows that should be video games? Let us know below.
