Spider-Man 2 PS5 LEAK: New Villains, Story & Release Date Revealed
Does Sony's new console have its first killer app?
Marvel's Spider-Man is Sony's most successful exclusive of the entire generation, so the prospect of a sequel has always a matter of 'when' rather than 'if'. Until now, information and rumours have been light on the ground, but an apparent insider leak - originating on Reddit - has allegedly uncovered details about the in-production project.
The information itself apparently comes from an unnamed source inside Insomniac Games, and details everything from the story, to new mechanics, to the launch date. It's the latter that's perhaps the most pressing, as the post suggests the studio is gearing up to announce the sequel this year (perhaps at the PS5 unveiling event) for a launch in late 2021. That would put it three years removed from the original game, which makes sense timing wise.
In terms of villains, the leak indicates that Harry Osborne's Venom will have a major role, which again is expected following the tease at the end of the original story. However, Green Goblin, Carnage, The Lizard, Mysterio, and Cardiac will also be involved.
The report also highlights Miles Morales' expanded role in the sequel. The first game's DLC featured the character training with Peter off screen, which was apparently setting him up to be a playable character in the next instalment. It's said his powers will differ from Parker's, and in general the hero will feature a different set of combat mechanics.
Again, take the leak with a pinch of salt, but hopefully we'll find out officially how Spider-Man 2 is shaping up soon.
