Spider-Man PS4's Biggest Villain Has Just Leaked...

"Wait... YOU?!"

Insomniac

Spider-Man PS4 is only a few months away from release, but an accidental leak may have let slip one of its biggest surprises.

The game lit up the E3 show floor just the other week, dazzling gamers first at Sony's own press conference before taking to the floor to show off a demo of its equally impressive open-world. It was the first walkthrough that seemed to get everyone talking though, and with Insomniac clearly assembling the Sinister Six, attentions were drawn to the mystery character at the end that seemed to leave everyone's favourite wall-crawler completely flustered.

- POTENTIAL MAJOR STORY SPOILERS FOLLOW -

Though this character has been kept under wraps, they could have just been revealed by one of the game's voice actors.

In an interview with YouTuber Drift0r, voice actor Chris Jai Alex let slip that none other than Doctor Octopus himself will be in the title. The video, which has since been deleted, showed off gameplay for the upcoming Call of Duty Black Ops 4 while Alex described his time with Insomniac, with the actor reportedly having provided motion capture for Rhino during the trailer.

Mid-flow in the conversation, Alex describes the logistics behind the game's motion capture, mentioning how "everyone's scaled very differently... Doctor Octopus is really tall... Rhino is big..."

Again, the video has been deleted, but the clip has been re-uploaded elsewhere (for now).

Could Doc Ock be the mystery character? It's certainly possible, and either way, the Doctor's inclusion is a great move for the game, with its roster only growing by the day.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
