Star Wars: Battlefront - 10 Shocking Moments From The E3 Demo
6. Hero Gameplay Looks Incredible
Despite being a fan-favourite element of the first Battlefront sequel, the hero system itself was never really too impressive. Sure, it was fun playing as your favourite Star Wars characters, but at the end of the day players were left with a rather rudimentary system that didn't dish out the hero gameplay to everyone equally. Thankfully, DICE seem to be improving upon these feature - introducing a more innovative and challenging combat system in the process. The developers have really managed to capture the feeling of being both behind and in front of a Lightsaber on the battlefield, with Darth Vader's audible breaths proving to be far more terrifying than any other piece in the Imperial arsenal is. So whilst it may be bad news for the soldiers that have to deal with these titans of the battlefront, those who get to wield the force and a Lightsaber as well are in store for a massive treat. Jedi Knights and Sith Lords now have to time their blocks to perfectly counter blaster shots, and Lightsaber duelling appears to be far more intricate than it once was in Pandemic's old titles. Baring witness to one of these duels is bound to be an exciting experience, so seeing Luke and Darth lock horns this way really adds to the epic scale that Battlefront seems to be striving for this year.
WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well.
In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
