Star Wars Battlefront 2 Campaign Hands-On: 10 Things We Learned
6. Some Really Cool/Deep References To The Wider Lore
There are fan references to demographics that will result in winks and nods, and then there are Star Wars fan-nods that will make some fans punch the sky through sheer recognition.
Indeed, there will be more in the full story, but thanks to writer Mitch Dyer growing up as a huge Star Wars fan who drank in every last part of the extended fiction, I spotted nods to various Star Wars novels, comics and movies throughout. Admiral Ackbar shows up in hologram form to deliver a speech directly from Operation Yellow Moon, for example, which has received greater coverage in a series of spin-off comics.
There's also the fact that Iden answers the question of "What are rebellions built on?" with "Hate", showing that the Empire aren't adverse to twisting the truth, being Rogue One showed the origin of that statement as "Hope".
It's this way of subtly saying "Inferno Squad/Iden was in the background of these events the whole time" that gives Battlefront 2's campaign a feeling of authenticity, even if it is retconned to fit.
