Star Wars: Battlefront Trailer Gets Release Date

Footage of the highly-anticipated reboot is coming to a screen near you.

It turns out the rumours were true: Star Wars: Battlefront will debut at this month's Star Wars Celebration in California. The convention takes place between April 16 and 19 and lucky fans in attendance will get a chance to see gameplay "behind closed doors" as well as partaking in other activities set up by EA's DICE. In their announcement, they said:

We could not think of a better or more appropriate place to debut the game officially for the first time than the premier event that celebrates the Star Wars universe and the legions of fans who have fallen in love with it.
But for those who aren't going to Celebration, don't worry because you're not going to miss out. DICE also told fans "worldwide" to expect a reveal trailer on April 17 at 6:30pm GMT. It'll be posted on Twitter first and then it'll likely land on YouTube. It's been a long wait for any kind of information about this installment of Battlefront, so it's the perfect time to capitalise on the hype and deliver something more substantial.
However, this won't be the first time that DICE has shown off the game; EA's COO Peter Moore teased fans after tweeting images from a private Gamestop event last month, saying that the gameplay footage received a "superb ovation". The signs are good - DICE has a mass of experience with the mechanics of a first-person shooter, having developed the Battlefield series, and it seems the early reactions are positive. But, some fans are perhaps more cynical about Battlefront after an apparent leak to Making Star Wars made waves, with an anonymous inside source claiming there is an "extremely aggressive" DLC plan for the game, causing people to worry that EA was just cashing in on the franchise. Those rumours are exactly that - rumours - so in the mean time, it's probably best to sit back and wait for April 17.
