"You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance." Gouken's origin is quite possibly one of the most interesting of all the series' characters and maybe even the first instance of a single line of text trolling an entire generation of children. Ryu's mistranslated win quote led to the creation of gamings greatest ever hoax and untold amounts of frustration as owners of Street Fighter II attempted to unlock hidden character Sheng Long through all sorts of fabricated challenges. Of course, the revelation that the 'name' Sheng Long was nothing more than a mistranslation of Shoryuken didn't exactly go down well with a lot of people. Fast-forward 16 years to the release of Street fighter IV and someone who looked suspiciously similar to the mythical Sheng Long concept art appeared. After almost two decades of speculation, Capcom finally decided to give Ryu and Ken's mentor and Akuma's brother a face, basing his appearance on the Sheng Long legend. Gouken undoubtedly needs to come back for Street Fighter V, if for no other reason than his long-running feud and rivalry with this next guy...
