Super Mario: 10 Things You Probably Didn't Know

6. He Was Editing Photos Long Before Instagram Existed

Mario No Photopi

One of the most exciting experiences to come out of the last few years has been taking photos of your food, before sharing it with your friends on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc. What you probably didn't know, was that Mario was in the photo-editing business long before any of today's big names. In the December of 1998, Mario No Photopi was released on the Nintendo 64 in Japan, and remains one of the rarest N64 games of all time. The title was more of an app than a real game. The cartridge had two SmartMedia card slots in the top which could be used to upload and save digital photos to the game. Then the real fun began. The game allowed you to add frames to the photos, as well as draw on them using the N64 mouse. The really clever part came when you had finished editing the photos, as you could then take them to your local digital printing display and get them developed!
