Super Mario Odyssey - 10 Secrets And Easter Eggs Fans Will Love

1. The Mushroom Kingdom As A Whole

Going into Super Mario Oydssey spoiler-free was a good idea, if only so you could come across Mushroom Kingdom unexpectedly.

Whilst the level as a whole is a fantastic Easter Egg, it’s absolutely packed with other secrets and references to Mario throughout the years. The most obvious reference is that Power Moons look exactly like stars, a Mario game staple. Visiting Peach’s castle will play exactly the music you would expect and looking up at the ceiling does something special too (just as it did in 64).

There are plenty of other treats to find too. You can see a Tanooki-tailed tree in the castle grounds, or take a rocket up to the sky to find a picture match puzzle depicting a classic image of Mario.

There’s even a rabbit running around a maze. The entire level was very obviously designed as a sort of love letter to the history of the franchise and it’s a fantastic way to ease you in to the post-game and the near endless amount of Moons that you’re going to need to collect to 100% the game.
