Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC: 8 Rumoured Characters You Need To Know About

1. Doom Slayer - DOOM

Super Smash Bros Ultimate Ryu
Bethesda

Doom Slayer, the marine singlehandedly responsible for repelling the forces of Hell with chainsaws and visceral executions, in a Smash Bros. game!? On paper, the idea is ludicrous, but this isn't the first time Smash has defied expectations. Prior to 2008's Brawl, not a soul would have believed a leak that name-dropped Sonic and/or Solid Snake as playable characters, and yet here we are.

Nintendo does have a family-friendly image to maintain, though, and short of retroactively altering Smash's age rating, id Software's demon slayer would need to be stripped of his, let's say, less than traditional approach to combat. There's the issue of retaining the character's identity to be wary of, but with BFGs, flamethrowers and superhuman punches a-okay in Ninty's eyes, there's more than enough wiggle room to ensure Doom Slayer gets the all-clear.

As a tribute to his relationship with Nintendo's past, the original armour suit from DOOM 64 is reported to be available as a pallet swap and the character himself to be announced at this year's E3 alongside Minecraft's Steve to promote DOOM Eternal.

All that's left is to hope and believe the rumours to be true.
