Temple Run: Brave Review [iOS]

As with the original Temple Run, Brave is very addictive and you'll just keep wanting to play over and over

rating:4

June 14th 2012 saw the release of Temple Run: Brave. From Imangi, the creators of the original Temple Run, we have the next generation of the popular game with the addition of the feisty Pixar Princess Merida, from the latest Disney princess film Brave, taking the place of Guy Dangerous. For anyone that has played Temple Run you will know exactly how highly addictive it can be, and this instalment is no different. You emerge from the cave as Merida being chased by Mordu, the demon bear our lovely Princess must escape, or at the very least, not get eaten by. The gameplay is basically the same as Temple Run, where the object is to run as far and as fast as you can while collecting coins and avoiding obstacles along the way. All of this while being chased down by the dreaded 15 foot tall bear with sharp teeth and deadly claws. Aside from the setting, which has been inspired by the Pixar's Brave and the wilds of Scotland, this app has incorporated Merida's archery ability by added targets throughout the course, which you require the player to tap the screen to shoot and score points. When these targets are coming up it is indicated by a yellow bow and arrow which - though helpful in aiding the player to identify when they need to shoot - can be extremely distracting. You still have, of course, the power-ups from the store, which can be bought with the coins you collect throughout the course. These power ups include a coin magnet, invisibility, score multipliers and others which are seen in the first edition of this game and can make the run for your life a little simpler. Additionally the developers have stuck with the objective mechanism, which includes targets that range from distance to points challenges, and gives the game an added dimension rather than just endlessly running away from a bear. Successful on the same terms as the original, Brave is a lot of fun, and Pixar and Imangi have done well with this game. It is certainly well worth the £0.69 for new and returning Temple Run fans alike. Visit our Temple Run: Brave hub-page for more screen-shots and game information.
