5. Betrayal At Baldur's Gate

So let’s say that your interest was piqued by my previous entry on Dungeon Mayhem and you’re looking to step things up a notch. Well, look no further than the utterly brilliant and completely spellbinding Betrayal At Baldur’s Gate board game. This is a spin-off of the ludicrously popular and well-reviewed Betrayal At The House On The Hill, but this time is set within the Dungeons and Dragons locale complete with custom themed quests, tiles, and of course, beautiful models.

The concept of the game is twofold, in the first stage you and your party explore the area, building a game world as you progress and unlocking new abilities, weapons, and skills. However at some point, and with a few unlucky dice rolls, the party will suddenly be split and now one of the players will fall in line with an evil and often malevolent force, turning the game from a co-op exploration title to an asymmetrical versus game.

There is an overwhelming amount of quests on offer and huge replay value here, and there’s nothing quite like the feeling of becoming the big evil of the playthrough and turning your once firm friends into dust, goo, or other such nasty messes. Brilliant fun from start to finish.
