The Game Awards 2018 Nominations: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

1. The Stacked Best Performance Category

Though most of the categories are pretty hit-and-miss in terms of nominees, the one slate that feels totally on-the-money is the Best Performance field, which saw Bryan Dechart (Detroit: Become Human), Christopher Judge (God of War), Melissanthi Mahut (Assassin's Creed Odyssey), Roger Clark (Red Dead Redemption 2) and Yuri Lowenthal (Spider-Man) nominated.

Each of the actors gave splendid performances which made the likes of Connor, Kratos and Peter Parker feel like living, breathing characters within their respective worlds.

With video game visual fidelity approaching a scarily lifelike level of verisimilitude in recent years, the standards are higher than ever for performances which can match those of the big screen, but the work of these five actors proved that gaming at its best is easily capable of matching film and TV.

Any of the five would be worthy winners, honestly, and it's tough to pick one standout among them.
